Our Goal is to provide for those in need, by providing clothing and personal care items to those who can’t afford them.
The Good Shepherd’s Clothes Closet is a community based, non-profit organization that was founded in 1995 by a group of caring citizens who felt that the homeless, especially homeless men in the Reno area, needed a source of good free clothing. Lillian and Fred Howe, Junius Thomsom and other volunteers dreamed up the Good Shepherd’s Clothes Closet. With the help of the Lion’s club and a $1000 donation from Covenant Presbyterian Church they opened the Good Shepherd’s Clothes Closet.
Good Shepherd’s Clothes Closet is open Mon-Fri 10:30 am – 3 pm. GSCC has a paid full-time manager and one to two paid part-time workers. Most of GSCC’s workers are volunteers. Some of our workers have been volunteers for 10 years or more.
GSCC takes in donations of good, used clothing, shoes, blankets, sheet sets, towels, sleeping bags, and personal care items. We also can provide necessities for a newborn baby. All these things are given away at no charge to our clients. Clients must present a voucher to “shop” at GSCC. Approximately 170 different agencies distribute the vouchers to those they judge are in need. Clients may “shop” once every 30 days.
